Pour Into You: A Tea Gathering for Women in Leadership

with Dee Baker Amos: 5 I’s of Leadership & Personal Growth

At a recent Women’s Tea Party hosted at Potpourri Boulangerie, Dee Baker Amos delivered powerful insights on leadership, personal growth, and the importance of building meaningful, authentic relationships. Through her 5 I’s framework, she offered practical guidance for women who aspire to lead with clarity, confidence, and intention.

At The WEB Connect, our mission is to create spaces where professional women can grow strategically in their careers while also finding the safety to be vulnerable, honest, and supported through real-world challenges. These thoughtfully curated events continue to move us forward and this brunch was no exception.

A huge thank you to our sponsor, Intelligent Change, for providing attendees with The Five-Minute Journal and affirmation cards! ✨ These thoughtful gifts remind us of the power of mindset, reflection, and daily intention—key ingredients for leadership and life.

1. Intelligence

Dee emphasized that emotional intelligence (EQ) often takes you further than IQ. Drawing from Emotional Intelligence by Daniel Goleman and Emotional Intelligence 2.0 by Travis Bradberry, she highlighted the importance of self-awareness, self-management, empathy, and relationship skills. Continuous learning—through reading, conferences, and curiosity—is essential for leadership growth.

2. Identify

Knowing who you are and how you show up is critical. Dee recommends:

  • Defining your personal brand in five words.

  • Being intentional about how others perceive you.

  • Demonstrating executive presence and aligning your actions with your vision.
She shared a key lesson from her own experience: communicate what you want to do strategically, not just what you can execute. Asking thoughtful questions and seeking feedback turns every interaction into a learning opportunity.

3. Influence

Leadership is also about building relationships and advocating for yourself. Dee explained the difference between mentors (guides) and sponsors (advocates who champion you in your absence). Key tips include:

  • Show up authentically for others, and they will reciprocate.

  • Use questions to redirect rather than say no.

  • Cultivate personal influence to be noticed in rooms where you aren’t physically present.

4. Innovation

Innovation sets great leaders apart. Dee encourages:

  • Refueling and recharging—sleep, nutrition, and surrounding yourself with inspiring communities.

  • Connecting ideas and insights in ways others may overlook.

  • Creating an environment where stress is minimized and creativity can flourish.

5. Intention

Intentionality underpins leadership and personal growth. Dee advises:

  • Prioritize your health, relationships, and well-being.

  • Advocate for yourself clearly and confidently.

  • Use “I” language to take ownership and communicate effectively.

Compatibility & Personal Relationships

Dee also addressed personal compatibility, highlighting the importance of alignment in:

  • Finances: views on money, debt, and financial priorities.

  • Family: interactions with your own and your partner’s family.

  • Intimacy vs. Sex: fostering connection beyond physical intimacy, and understanding your sexual identity and preferences.

She stressed that clear understanding in these areas supports healthy, intentional relationships.

Takeaway

Dee Baker Amos reminded attendees to see the possibilities, soar to new heights, and lead with authenticity and purpose. Leadership is as much about personal growth and intentional living as it is about guiding others—combining intelligence, identity, influence, innovation, and intention to create impact.
